Retractable Reel Design Tips
Customizing Retractable ID Badge Reels is a popular and practical way to market and brand your business, putting your logo, information, company name, etc., in a place that is constantly seen. There are, however, a few things to keep in mind.
- Resolution. Vector artwork works best. If your artwork is rasterized, high resolution (300 dpi) is ideal for crisp clear results. All of the artwork offered in our clip art gallery meets these requirements. However if you are uploading your own, this is important to keep in mind.
- Size. Our reel imprint areas range from .75 to 1.5 inches, with most being .75 inches. This is usually enough to put small amounts of info or a logo. Do not over design or put too much small information. Think of your reel as a tiny billboard, not a phone book ad.
Tip: You do NOT have to find smaller images or resize before uploading! At one inch printed at 300dpi, an image needs to be at least 300 pixels wide to print clearly. We get a lot of "thumbnail" art uploaded to the designer and have to contact customers for larger art, which causes production delay.
- Colors. Although we can happily print any amount of color you desire with near photographic capabilities on our vinyl reel stickers, we recommend keeping it simple with reels. A plain color background underneath a contrasting design works best.
- Fonts. Font choice is very important. If you choose to use text, please be cautious of the font you choose. Please make sure it is clear and well spread out. For these small sizes, sans serif and all caps may work best.
- Print area. Please keep in mind that when you are making your design on the online designer, the actual imprint area is not what you are seeing. The online designer will zoom your design making it easier for you to see what you are doing during the design process, but the end result will only allow for a smaller imprint area. Design within the dotted rectangle guide. For round reels, anything outside of the white circle will not show.
- About Vinyl. We print on quality, thick stock glossy vinyl that bonds tightly to the product. While it is nearly weatherproof and made to endure, wear depends on amount of product use. Most imprint areas are recessed to prevent edge wear.
- Safety Margins. We recommend keeping your artwork and text about 1/16 - 1/8 an inch from the edges.
